Problem:
The client’s original plans for a balcony could have detracted from their home’s value if executed poorly.
Solution:
After reevaluating the plans, we relocated the balcony above the pool, providing shade and shelter for the pool area below while creating an eye-catching feature. Key elements included:
  • Polished concrete steps mounted to a 150×150 single stainless-steel stringer.
  • Custom glass balustrading and a continuous stainless-steel handrail.
  • Dual-purpose functionality for outdoor living and BBQ areas.

Rooftop Balcony with City Views

Result:
The balcony became a focal point for entertaining, enhancing the property’s aesthetic appeal and usability while protecting the pool area from the elements.
Problem:
The client wanted to open up their downstairs living area and create an outdoor space overlooking their pool. However, the house was a 45-year-old masonry home with a suspended slab, and removing the load-bearing walls presented a significant challenge.
Solution:
We worked with house removalists to fit 10 nine-tonne hydraulic jacks with timber base plates to prevent floor damage. Once the walls were safely removed, we:
  • Installed a 9m-long, 460mm-high steel beam on the exterior wall to support the structure.
  • Added a 400mm x 8m beam for the 6m sliding door.
  • Framed and rendered all beams to match the home’s existing style.
  • Completed fine details such as granite benchtops, a VJ feature wall with a recessed TV, and a custom 1.8m x 2.4m barn door.

Supporting a Two-Storey Home

Result:
The transformation created a spacious, modern living area seamlessly connected to the outdoor pool.
Problem:
The client wanted to renovate their kitchen but was limited by space and poorly designed existing structures. Another builder had told them it was impossible to remove key masonry walls.
Solution:
We supported the roof, demolished the masonry walls, and installed steel beams to create a 6m-wide opening. To enhance the design:
  • Fitted steel posts between glass sliding doors and windows to ensure unobstructed views.
  • Installed 21.5mm thick glass for a 5.7m x 2.6m opening with seamless transitions from glass to wall finishes.
  • Engineered and custom-made a 3.6m x 1.6m lift-up servery window that opens with a touch of a finger.
  • Built a 6m x 18m ironbark deck and roof integrated seamlessly with the existing structure.

Removing Structural Walls for Open Living

Result:
The resulting open-plan kitchen and living area, with expansive glass doors and windows, created a stunning indoor-outdoor flow, bringing natural light and functionality to the space.
